Obituary for Grant Wayne Serreno

On Tuesday, April 30, 2019, Grant Wayne Serreno, loving husband and father, went home to be with his Lord at the age of 68 after a short battle with lung cancer.

He served in the United States Army and was a decorated soldier and two time Purple Heart Recipient for his bravery and service in Viet Nam. He retired as a lieutenant from the Florida Department of Corrections in 1998. He never knew a stranger and always had a kind word and helping hand to anyone in need. He was an avid WV Mountaineer fan and a true American Gentleman who was best known for his Levis, cowboy hats and boots. He attended Westview Baptist Church in Martinsburg WV

Grant was preceded in death by his parents Albert F. and Virginia Taylor Serreno; his sisters – Norma Gilkeson and Tammy Bennett; his brothers – Albert “Sonny” Serreno and Dean Serreno.

In 1990, Grant married his childhood sweetheart, Sandra Meadows and together they combined their families in love. There are 7 children who had the honor of calling him Dad. Their youngest son, Noah Josiah, precedes him in death.

Left here to honor his memory are his loving wife, Sandra, daughters Jenny (Matthew) Serreno Lewis, Sibby (Andy) Duff, Candice (Tony) Loupe, and sons Jason Arbaugh, Grant Wayne (Kathy) Serreno II, and Brad (Dani) Wills, sisters, Sharon Kay Serreno McCallaster, Connie Serreno (John) Brecke, and Bonny Serreno (Robert) McConnell, brothers, Douglas Serreno, and Allen Serreno.

Grant was an amazing grandfather to Noa, Bailey, Drew, Patrick, Theo, Shelby, Jacob, Avery, Kaitlyn, Brady, Connor, Logan, Dylan, Ryan. He also had 2 great grandchildren, Owen and Ella, and another on the way. A true family man, Grant is survived by numerous nieces and nephews who will greatly miss his influence in their lives.

A celebration of Grant’s life will be at the Lantz Funeral Home in Alderson WV. There will be a Visitation on Friday, May 3rd from 6 PM to 8 PM with a Funeral Service on Saturday, May 4th at 1 PM. Friends may pay their respects one hour prior to the service. He will have a Military Graveside ceremony immediately following the funeral at the Gwinn Family Cemetery in Lockbridge, WV.
