Obituary for Phyllis Schoolcraft McCall

Phyllis Schoolcraft McCall , age 81, passed on to her eternal home on Friday, July 5, 2019, at her home in Slaty Fork, WV. She was born in Fayetteville WV on July 14, 1937, the daughter of Samuel M. Schoolcraft and Ada Pearl Auldridge Schoolcraft.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Carlos R. Schoolcraft and two infant babies, Julian G. McLaughlin, and Lily Faith McLaughlin. She is survived by her husband of 49 years Pastor David H. McCall, her sons, Daniel M. McLaughlin (daughter-in-law, Bonnie) of Hillsboro, Douglas McCall, and David T. McCall of Slaty Fork, her granddaughters, Vanessa Lail (Doug) of and Amanda McLaughlin of Hillsboro, great grandchildren, Danielle Stuart, Ashley Stuart. Joshua Stuart, and Gavin Walls, and her sisters, Janice S. Gurley (Lee) of Charlottesville VA, Linda S. Wright (Willie) of Marlinton, and Wanda S. Harper Rick) of Frankford also survive her along with many nephews, nieces, three special sister-in-laws, Linda Kay Burgess, Peggy McCall, and Kathy McCall and brother-in-law Joe McCall. She always remembered fondly her friends at Marlinton High School and other friends she loved dearly.
Family night will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Lantz Funeral Home in Buckeye, and the service to celebrate her life and the impact she had on her family and others is planned for Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the Cooktown Community Church at 1:00 p.m.
She was known by all as “Aunt Phyllis” and loved making and selling her jellies and jams at the Farmer’s Market and the Pioneer Days Flea Market where she was looking forward to this year.
She loved to write and was the author of three books, BENEATH THE SNOW, WILDWOODS, PURPLE MOUNTAIN POETRY. She was awarded several recognitions for her poetry.
Phyllis was a proud member of Cooktown Church at Buckeye and was instrument in making sure the church her father started in 1954 remained open and she never missed a chance to share her deep faith in Jesus Christ. From her birth to her death on Friday, she nurtured her family and those her with love and enthusiasm.
